Now it's getting serious

This is the term when it all starts to become real for trainee teachers.

You're going to be poring over job advertisements, putting together your CV and working out what to wear for your job interview.

Some vacancies, particularly those in primary schools, may be hard to come by, so you will have to be ahead of the game. With that in mind, we have devoted several pages of this issue to helping you prepare. We try to make sense of what job ads really tell you about the schools you're applying for.

Are you worried about your interview? Read our advice on how to impress by saying the right things, as well as looking the part on alimited budget.

Our cover story continues our regular feature on special needs, with the focus, this issue, on Tourette's syndrome.

We look at why Scottish men are shying away from teaching, while one former trainee bares his soul on why he left his course just weeks into his course.

As usual, our experts put you through your paces in the classroom, including an enlightening look at how the techniques used for teaching PE can be adapted to any and every subject.

Our next issue comes out on March 13, but in the meantime let us know what ails and worries you, and how we can smooth the path for you from training to teaching. We're particularly interested to hear your jobhunting stories.

Have a great term.
