Nominations for the National Union of Teachers leadership election closed this week. Steve Sinnott, deputy general secretary, gained 74 votes from local branches; Ian Murch, West Yorkshire national executive member, 42; John Bangs, head of education, 38; and Martin Powell Davies 13. The ballot to decide general secretary Doug McAvoy's successor runs from June 7 to 28.
