Only 40 per cent connect

Six out of 10 teachers feel their training does not prepare them to deal with pupils with speech, language or communications difficulties. A survey by the charity I Can found that only 1 per cent of teachers feel well prepared to work with such pupils; 70 per cent said there was not enough on-the-job training to help them to meet these children's needs.
