Orchestra reaches out to young
Monday to Friday, October 14-18. During a week-long residence at Fernieside Primary, Edinburgh, entitled "The Weather Report", a composer, a choreographer and an artist will be assisted by three musicians from the orchestra. BBC Scotland will be on hand to make three 20-minute programmes about the event.
Sunday, November 3. As part of an afternoon of storytelling and music for children, organised by the Edinburgh Book Festival, members of the orchestra will join the actress Gerda Stevenson in performing Babar the Elephant Ferdinand the Bull and Edward Lear's Animal Alphabet at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh.
Saturday, November 9. The orchestra is participating in showing films from Music for Moving Pictures, an ambitious multi-media project involving film and live music.
To accompany a number of animated short films by students of Edinburgh College of Art, three groups will compose music to be played by an ensemble from the SCO.
Higher music pupils from Tynecastle and James Gillespie's secondary schools will work alongside two amateur groups directed by the composer Craig Armstrong.
