Organiser needed to ease the burden

Out of hours learning co-ordinator Swanlea School, Tower Hamlets, London

Swanlea School in East London needs someone to organise the school's extra-curricular activities. Out of hours events have suffered in the past few years as the rising tide of meetings and paperwork have stolen the time needed for such things.

Teachers who run trips typically prepare and plan for them in their own time, but high-profile accidents have tended to discourage teachers who want to take kids out but are faced by a sea of risk assessments, training courses and guidance documents.

At Swanlea, headteacher Linda Austin is aware of these facts, and she hopes the appointee will be able to organise events and trips, thus allowing teachers to get on with what they do best. Whoever gets the job will need to arrange sports events, after-school clubs, school trips and various arts and drama activities.

"Having teaching experience would be helpful but not essential," Ms Austin says. "We're looking for someone to co-ordinate our existing programme - and expand it if possible."

The salary of pound;32,000-pound;35,000 reflects the responsibility involved. It will be interesting to see whether others follow Swanlea's example and create similar posts. Contact the school on 020 7375 3267.
