* pound;9.4bn for primary school buildings over the next five years

* direct grants rising to pound;36,000 for primaries and pound;115,000 for secondaries in 2008

* pound;25m by 2008 for ICT for the most disadvantaged pupils

* expansion of the Teach First programme outside London

* 17-year-olds to get up to pound;75 a week in educational maintenance allowances and other benefits to encourage them to remain in education or training

* teenagers who are not in education or training to be given as yet undisclosed financial incentives to enrol on courses

* Three and four-year-olds to receive up to 15 hours a week of free nursery education by 2007
