Out of Register

25th August 2006 at 01:00
Matthew MacIver, registrar of the General Teaching Council for Scotland, is a man of many parts. Apart from his day job, MacIver also chairs the Gaelic development agency, Bord na Gaidhlig.

This takes him to many exotic locations, and we are grateful to last week's Stornoway Gazette for alerting us to his appearance in his native island of Lewis to officially open that most revered of gatherings, the Carloway Show.

Strangely, we received no press release on this outing by MacIver. But perhaps we have got the wrong man. For the chap who pitched up in Carloway was described as "register of the General Council of Scotland". This must mean that people can apply to join him or to be struck off him.
