We spotted a familiar figure at the Scottish launch of the European Year of Languages (page five). None other than Joanne Beaumont, Glasgow member of the Scottish School Board Association executive - as we thought.

Her badge told another story - Scottish Parent Teacher Council. The two organisatons are hardly beloved of each other.

Yes, Beaumont, not a supporter of the SSBA's "Section 28" policy, is the association's latest defection. We trust there has been no poaching involved and that her new organisation is protected by the Bridlington agreement if not the Bosman ruling.
