Pauline Perry: a brief CV

Born: October 15, 1931. Educated at Girton College, Cambridge University.

Taught in English, Canadian and American secondaries in the 50s.

Education lecturer at Exeter, and then Oxford, universities in the 60s. HM schools inspector from 1970, chief inspector 1981-86.

Became first woman to head a polytechnic in 1987 as director of South Bank Polytechnic. Made a Conservative life peer in 1991. President Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge University, 1994-2001.
