Pay Figures

16th February 1996 at 00:00
The School Teachers' Review Body report is the fifth since it was set up in 1991. Its recommendations, as approved by Gillian Shephard, will now be open to consultation with local authority employers and the teacher unions. The consultation period closes on March 14. There are unlikely to be major changes.

Pay for most teachers will rise by 2.75 per cent from April, with a further 1 per cent rise in December. Newly qualified teachers on points 0 3 of the classroom teachers' spine will receive between 4.32 and 4.87 per cent.

School Teachers' Review Body, Fifth Report 1996, is available from HMSO, price Pounds 13.
