Richard Gorringe, director of Norton Radstock College, near Bath, will become chief executive of Bedford College when Dr Phillip Mansell retires in July.

Dr John Rea, assistant principal and director of academic affairs at the College of St Mark and St John, Plymouth, will replace Dr John Anderson as principal of the college from September 1

Martin Dickinson, deputy head of Hinchingbrooke School, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, will become head of Ackworth School on June 1. He will be replaced on September 1 by Gordon Boyd, currently senior teacher at Bretton Woods School, Peterborough.

Laura Melling, a pupil at Clifton College, Bristol has won a Royal Navy scholarship to join the service as a seaman officer, one of very few to be awarded to women.
