Professor Margaret Brown, head of the school of education and professor of mathematics education at King's College London, has been elected a fellow of the college.

The following heads have left their schools in East Sussex: Derrick Hughes, formerly at Rocks Park county primary school, Uckfield, is to be head of London Mead primary, Burgess Hill, West Sussex; Stephen Hempson-Jones, formerly at Christ Church School, St Leonards, is moving to Marish middle school, Langley, Berkshire; Robin Barnett of Elphinstone junior school, Hastings, and Isabel Stedman of Peacehaven county infant school, have retired.

Grampian has made the following appointments effective from August 28: Leonard Taylor, formerly deputy head of Kemnay Academy, is to be head of St Machar Academy, Aberdeen, replacing Douglas Marr who is now at Banchory Academy. Douglas Marr takes over at Banchory from Stewart Wilson, who is retiring; and Robert Skene, formerly deputy head of Portlethen Academy, is to be head of Torry Academy, Aberdeen, replacing Robin Dyer who is retiring.
