Bob Hogg, chief adviser and senior education officer (curriculum and quality) for the London borough of Waltham Forest, has been appointed executive director of education for the new unitary Southampton City Council.

Ian Menter, head of research and staff development, faculty of education, University of the West of England, has been appointed head of teaching studies, University of North London. He was a member of a think-tank to reform and update teacher education in Albania and other eastern European countries.

Timothy Kilbridge, head of Windsor School, Rheindahlen, Germany, will become head of Ratcliffe College and Grace Dieu Manor, Leicestershire, on September 1 in succession to Father Keith Tomlinson, of Ratcliffe, and Father Gervase Duffy, of Grace Dieu Manor, who are retiring.

Barbara Harrison, a senior manager at the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority, has been appointed education adviser to the Girls' Public Day School Trust from June 10. She succeeds Jim Knight, who has started up an education consultancy.

Colin Wilmhurst, head of Westbourne School, Sheffield, is the new chair of the region's Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools. He replaces Moray Bissett, head of the prep department of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Wakefield.
