Lambeth Education Service has appointed the following senior managers: Alan Wood, head of pupil support and special educational needs for Southwark, is to be assistant director of learning development and community services; Martin Hesketh, a senior consultant with Coopers Lybrand, is to be assistant director of resources; and Michael Daniels, who established and managed the school management support service at Hammersmith and Fulham, is to be client manager.

Sir Michael Heron has been reappointed as chair of the National Council for Vocational Qualifications for a further year.

Victoria Musgrave, formerly deputy head of King Edward VI School, Louth, Lincolnshire, has been appointed head of Blenheim High School, Epsom, Surrey, from January 1. The school is the first grant-maintained secondary to be opened, and takes in its first pupils in September 1997.
