FRENCH WRITING SKILLS. By David Crosland and Phil Horsfall. John Murray pound;25

French Writing Skills prepares pupils for GCSE, with examples based on syllabuses and specimen papers.

Although instructions are in French, the annotations are in English and the pack also includes handy checklists of expressions of time, linking words, and other vocabulary commonly needed in writing exercises. Weaker pupils could be put off by exhortations to "remember the rules about adjectives" or "use on peut with the infinitive"; nevertheless this is a useful resource for an area that is sometimes neglected.
