Pitching in

Carrick Academy in Maybole, South Ayrshire, has secured a pound;401,600 award from the New Opportunities Fund to construct a synthetic sports pitch with floodlighting. The existing grass pitch is often unplayable.

The new pitch will be available for use by the school's 1,400 pupils and by neighbourhood primary schools and community groups, primarily for football, rugby and athletics.
