Plan not shelved;Letter

30th July 1999 at 01:00
PLEASE note that Haringey Council was not asked to re-write its library plan by Culture Secretary Chris Smith (TES, July 16).

We are consulting local people on how they would like to see our service develop. As with your poll, we have had calls for more evening and weekend opening. We have not yet analysed all the responses but are happy to share the results with you in the autumn.

We await the Government's consultation on minimum standards with interest.

George Meehan, Council leader, Haringey, London N22
