Plea for list of nannies

Nannies and childcarers are facing renewed calls for a national compulsory register. The Professional Association of Nursery Nurses wants nanny agencies to impose a minimum age of 20 for nannies and au pairs going abroad, and to insist on at least two years' childcare experience before giving young women sole charge of babies.

The call follows the case of 19-year-old English au pair Louise Woodward, who will be tried for the murder of nine-month-old Matthew Eappen in the United States in July.
