* I recently bought a Philips Ecotone "economy" light bulb with this inscription on the carton: "Electricity 18 Watt: Light output 100 watt".

I fear that, though science teachers may have succeeded in introducing their pupils to the idea of conserving energy, the quite separate topic of conservation of energy seems to have fallen by the wayside.
