* Why do public schools "dislike" the advanced extension award (TES, August 29)? You published a letter just over a year ago (TES, June 12, 2002) stating that the 2002 take-up for AEA was greater than for the old S-level and drew equally from the independent and state sectors, whereas S-level entry had been almost exclusively from independent schools. I understand that there were more AEA entries this year, presumably in similar proportions.
