* The expansion of faith schools should have been halted long before the London bombs (Debate, TES, August 19).

Faith schools - just like setting by ability - separate children in ways that deny the possibility of growing up in a spirit of tolerance and mutual supportiveness.

Secular comprehensives are the only alternative to challenging ignorance, fundamentalism and the blinkered separation of future generations of our children.
