Portrait of the Nation

13th April 2001 at 01:00
Portrait of the Nation is a vast 30-metre collage made up of 15 huge panels featuring more than a quarter of a million photographs submitted by people all over the UK. Moorland and mountain, seascape and townscape are the settings for an extraordinary assemblage of faces, bodies and human accessories.

Marks amp; Spencer commissioned Portrait and has produced a fine resources pack for schools. It contains a video showing the artst, David Mach, at work, as well as materials inspiring many thoughts about work and play, communities and environments, and an old country entering a new millennium.

Information about the pack, the associated competition and the national tour of Portrait of the Nation can be obtained from the information line: 0870 3330102. The project's website is www2.marksandspencer.comportrait
