DAVID Blunkett showed uncharacteristic modesty, I thought, with his valedictory comment: "If I have a regret, it is that I didn't manage to wholly change the morale of the teaching profesion" (Quote of the Week, TES, May 11).

Then again, I suppose he's bound to allow Chris Woodhead at least some of the credit.
