YOUR reporter misunderstands the inspection proposals set out in the Government's review of the independent sector ("Private schools brought into line", TES, September 14).

The 1,275 schools in the Independent Schools Council are already inspected in accordance with these proposals under a voluntary agreement.Schools such as Harrow will not now "face a tougher and more up-to-date inspection regime". It already exists. What the Government's proposals will do is to make the 1,000 independent schools outside the ISC subject to the same tougher requirements.
