I have always enjoyed your research correspondent's informative reports on the world's conference venues but his recent account of his trip to the European Educational Research Association conference in Lille was a classic ("French farce", TES, September 14).

Who needs David Lodge when we can rely on David Budge? I look forward to the publication of The Budge Collection: The Complete Lowdown as a Christmas stocking-filler.
