I did not know whether to laugh or cry when I read of Professor Henry Beker's proposals for pupils to "take their laptop from class to class" (TES, December 8).

We have to warn our pupils to keep their pound;50 mobile phones hidden on the way home, becase of the number of robberies. What do government ministers seriously think would happen if the local criminals discovered that these children were carrying pound;1,000 worth of computer equipment?
