WILL the GTC's first chief executive (TES, September 3) be independent of Government?

We hope the first chair (again to be appointed by the Secretary of State) will be a successful teacher, but will we get another department secondee?

Is it right that teachers should foot the bill while 30 of the 64 members are not elected by or from teachers? Will it be a professional body or the Government's Teaching Council?
