Practise what you play

29th November 2002 at 00:00
When adults are asked about their biggest regret in life, not having learned to play a musical instrument often heads the list. Classic FM and Yamaha have produced a densely informative 28-page booklet to make that lament less likely. Getting the Most Out of Music is full of advice for parents on the benefits of music, its therapeutic and educational value, and its ability to enrich life, whatever your age. There is much brief but sensible counsel on choosing instruments, finding teachers, maintaining practice routines and keeping things enjoyable. Recommended recordings and useful addresses and websites develop the theme. The booklet can be ordered free from www.yamaha-music.co.uk or www.classicfm.com
