Pre-school charity's Pounds 1m goal

5th December 1997 at 00:00
The excellent article "Pre-school playgroups launch fight for survival" (TES, November 21) hit the nail on the head in terms of the threats facing the pre-school movement in all but one respect. Sadly, the Pre-school Learning Alliance is not planning "to spend Pounds 1 million to raise (pre-schools') profile", for the simple reason that the charity does not have Pounds 1m. If only.

It is perhaps worth mentioning, however, that on December 3 the PLA was re-launching its Pre-school Child Appeal, to raise funds to support children in hardship and those with special needs. The target is Pounds 1m over the next 18 months to help some of the 20,000 children who attend pre-schools.
