Pre-schools on the offensive;In brief

A petition with more than 100,000 signatures will be presented to education ministers on Wednesday to highlight the importance of pre-school education and the plight of groups threatened with closure. Hundreds of parents and staff are expected to march through London. The Pre-school Learning Alliance, which is organising the campaign, estimates that 1,500 groups could close this year. Last year 800 groups folded.
