Ailments such as asthma, epilepsy and hay fever are on the increase among children in the UK. To promote better understanding of these conditions among teachers, parents and other adults, and to increase knowledge of causes, symptoms, diagnosis and prevention, Legal and General HealthCare has produced a series of straightforward medical cards written by experts. They are available free to readers on 0800 393 542.

Home-Start, the nationwide family support service, has produced a free leaflet on how professionals can refer families to a local scheme. It outlines the organisation's range of services, its practice framework and its rigorous procedures for volunteer selection and training and is aimed at teachers and playgroup workers among others. Send SAE to: Home-Start UK, 2 Salisbury Road, Leicester LE1 7QR.
