Pupils in Paisley also face a shake-up under proposals approved by Renfrewshire's education committee on Tuesday. Four options were agreed for consultation - close Merksworth High in June 2002, shut St Mirin's High at the same time and ransfer the pupils to St Andrew's Academy, move St Andrew's to the Merksworth building if the latter closes, or run St Mirin's and Merksworth as two separate schools, but on a joint campus with some "curricular integration".
