QC called in over placing

13th June 1997 at 01:00
A placing request wrangle at a Bishopbriggs primary has forced East Dunbartonshire to seek the opinion of a Queen's Counsel. The council has been angered by the decision of an appeals' committee to overturn an earlier council verdict rejecting three placing requests for St Matthew's primary school.

East Dunbartonshire argues that it will have to break the Government's spending limits if it is forced to accept extra pupils. An additional teacher would be required or the school building would have to be adapted at a cost of Pounds 50,000.
