Read full report before coming to a conclusion
Usually it is generated by opinionated pieces where colleagues bare their educational prejudices, but two weeks ago it was the condensing of the Accounts Commission's best value report into Perth and Kinross Council. It gave a wrong impression of the work which characterises our education and children's services.
Certainly, attainment in our schools needs to improve but, without putting that in the context that standards are at or above the national average, your account gives only part of the story. The report confirms that "the council demonstrates good awareness of where service performance needs to improve and is taking action to raise attainment".
That there has been much change at director level over the last few years tends to detract from the service's continued progress. The real story is that we have a hardworking, effective and dedicated staff, committed to delivering high-quality and improving services to young people.
I am not content with where we are; there is work to be done, but I urge anyone to read the full report and gain a better insight into education and children's services in Perth and Kinross.
