Regional pay on cards

The spectre of regional pay for teachers has surfaced in England, where the School Teachers' Review Body is to examine its introduction. It is likely to include paying a premium to teachers working in urban areas, based on an investigation of the extra salary for London teachers. The Westminster Government has sanctioned a "golden handcuff" deal worth pound;10,000 from next month to attract teachers to the most challenging secondaries - provided they stay for three years. Some 6,000 appointments will benefit 500 schools.
