As part of the work of the Remote Sensing in Geography Project, the Geographical Association will published two pack in January, both titled Images of Earth. The project, which was established in September 1992 and funded by the Department for Education and British National Space Centre, is based at the Institute of Education, University of London. Through 1995 it will be offering in-service training to teachers, advisers and lecturers to support the publication of the project materials.

The packs are designed to provide resources for self-study and in-service education, helping teachers to understand remotely sensed images (aerial photographs and satellite images) and to interpret them; examples of using images in the classroom, and suggested activites; and information about remote sensing resources. The key stage 2 pack includes 19 separate A4 images and three posters. The key stage 3 and GCSE pack includes 53 A4 images and three posters as well as two discs of image data.

Two major conferences will launch these publications early next year: the northern conference will be on February 22, 1995, at the Doncster Exhibition Centre; the southern conference will be on March 1, 1995, at the Institute of Education, University of London.

These conferences will also provide geography teachers, information technology advisersinspectors and lecturers in initial teacher training with a comprehensive exhibition of resources for remote sensing in primary and secondary schools. With lectures and workshops, these events will offer an opportunity for delegates to gain an overview of remote sensing resources and their use in geography.
