Five Star Rating
What is it?
A collection of literacy resources for individual and whole-class activities based on zoo and animal themes.
How can it be used?
These colourful and innovative resources can be printed out in large formats for display or made into workbooks for each child, as part of English, science or art and design lessons. They could also form the basis of preparation before a visit to the zoo to encourage children to think about the animals they will see there.
This collection of resources can be adapted and edited to suit teachers' needs in a variety of lessons.
Divide the class into pairs and give each pair a selection of labels and pictures to match to each animal. Give a letter template to individual pupils for completion at home.
Stimulate class discussion by asking pupils what their favourite animals are and why. What do they eat? Do they live in the wild or can they be kept as pets? Pupils could design a class poster for display after a visit to the zoo to remind them of everything they have learnt.
Why is it successful?
This resource saves teachers time sourcing visual material, enabling them to focus on exciting and varied ways to engage the class.
