What is it?

A mystery game where there is a murder to be solved. There are 32 suspects, one of whom is guilty. Using your powers of deduction, can you crack the five coded clues to reveal the identity of the killer? This entertaining resource is suitable for pupils of different ages and abilities. They are given clues that are a series of puzzles, plus profiles of all the suspects.

How can it be used?

You can involve and engage a class of even the most reluctant maths pupils in solving this mystery. They must unravel the ciphers in the clues to find out who is the baddy.

Classroom ideas

This activity can be played in teams, could be timed to see who solves the problems first and then pupils can discuss how they came up with the right answers. It has also been suggested that it could be translated into different languages and used as a languages resource.

Why is it successful?

It is a fun way of developing problem solving skills, and works with all ages and abilities, and even the most challenging of pupils.
