Ridings closure looms

Calderdale Council has published a notice of intention to close The Ridings in Halifax, once labelled the country's worst secondary school. It gives the public six weeks to respond, after which a final decision will be made.

Sue McMahon, from the Calderdale branch of the NUT, said: "Clearly the hidden agenda is to railroad through an academy without the stigma of The Ridings attached to it."
