Ridings reined in

2nd November 2007 at 00:00
The Ridings School, once described as the worst in Britain, is to close. The secondary in West Yorkshire became the centre of a? media storm in 1996 when staff walked out over "unteachable" pupils. It staged a comeback and in 2001 inspectors praised pupils' behaviour. But in March the school was put in special measures again and the council has decided to shut it in August 2009.
