After giving his keynote address at a conference in Ireland, Tommy MacKay, the psychologist (president of the British Psychological Society, no less), offered to buy a round of drinks.
Amid the predictable diet Cokes and Gamp;Ts, one woman asked forchampagne. "I've always wanted to ask a Scotsman to buy me champagne," she explained.
Quite unfazed, MacKay enquired: "Any particular year?"
"No, the year doesn't matter," she said. "All right," he replied, "let's make it next year."
