Rise in tradeswomen
Forget Bob the Builder - at South Birmingham College it is more likely to be Bella the Builder. The number of women enrolling on trade courses rose from 60 four years ago to almost 200 this year. Staff say the rise may be due to the attractive wages and shifting attitudes to women in the workplace. The college also employs a number of female tutors. Carla Williams, studying a level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery, said: "I don't get any problems from the lads as I let my work speak for itself."
