Roaring success

(Photograph) - North East Worcestershire college is celebrating a breakthrough after five of its students were taken on as fully-fledged Harley Davidson technicians.

It is the first time that students trained entirely by the college have found jobs in Harley dealerships.

A college spokesman said: "The significance of this is that these students are not work-based students or apprentices. They have been taken from our motor vehicle studies course, shown that they have the skills required and been taken on, not as trainees, but full employees."

The college has also provided work-based training for more than 100 Harley technicians at its new specialist motorcycle training centre.

Elliott Andrews, 17, Richard Pepall, 21, Paul Garvey, 18, Alex Pauntney, 19 and Michael North, 18, will work for one of Harley's largest dealerships, Magic Group, in Berkshire and Southampton. Mr Garvey said: "Before coming to the college, I only did enough work to pass my GCSEs to get me here and would never have dreamed of a job opportunity like thisAGE:TES Friday ROY KILCULLEN
