Rock-solid information

A Guide to Common Fossils adds to a useful illustrated series on Earth science from FSC Publications. The guide unfolds into 12 laminated pages. Six of these provide information on what fossils are, how they were formed, where to look for them, what their names mean, and how to group them into broad categories. There is also a fantastic timeline about geological periods. The other six pages have 70 photos of varieties of fossil, with captions explaining why they look as they do, helping readers distinguish the coiled ammonite from the segmented trilobite. A Guide to Common Fossils costs pound;3.25 + pound;1 pp from FSC Publications, Preston Montford, Shrewsbury SY4 1HW.
