Role of TECs to be reviewed;News in brief;FE Focus

22nd May 1998 at 01:00
The Government is to review the contribution training and enterprise councils make to national policies, and how they will work with the regional development agencies.

The review will examine: the remit of TECs; funding and contracting frameworks; ways of reducing levels of irregular payments and fraudulent claims against TECs; how to reduce bureaucracy; strengthening accountability to local communities; and the relationship with other agencies, such as National Training Organisations.

It will take place over the next six months and will be carried out by the Department for Education and Employment's operations directorate in consultation with other departments and TECs. It will result in the development of new strategic guidance for the remainder of the Parliament aimed at providing TECs with a clear focus on thier role as key partners in delivering local and national priorities.
