In the running

The books are now open in the race to win one of Scottish education's more lucrative prizes: the pound;70,000 post of registrar to the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

Last week's council meeting went into private session to discuss the vacuum, following Ivor Sutherland's announcement of his retirement. Jotter, as usual, was ejected butso were those with an interest in the job.

We spotted early departures by Douglas Weir, dean of education at Strathclyde University; Tony Finn, the GTC's education convener and Kirkcaldy heidie; and Eleanor Currie, director of education in East Renfrewshire. They were all rushing off to vital meetings, of course. Interesting.
