Safe way to recruit;Diary

PERUSING the Internet (don't ask why) the Diary comes across Asda's helpful website for graduates seeking a life in retail.

Asda has embraced new technology and would-be managers can apply online. All you have to do to reach an application form is pass a "fun questionnaire" to see if you are a natural-born seller. Sometimes, shelf-stacking seems quite attractive, so we decide to have a go.

Alas, we are found wanting - maybe because we thought the Golden Rule of Retail was "shop till you drop". Or because we thought a good manager was "someone who sits in their office all day".

Asda's rejection is quick and brutal. The website has an automatic link which sends unsuccessful candidates to ... Safeway's recruitment page.
