* I welcome your article on how schools misunderstand the skills businesses are looking for in students ("Schools hit the wrong skill keys", TES, May 25).
Many students we see have no idea what life in the workplace is like and seem poorly briefed by teachers. In my firm we have had students who expect to knock off at 4pm, or who are shocked that five seconds of "larking aroun" near a moving forklift truck can lead to their immediate removal from the premises.
It is also sad that, out of 100 or so students we have had in five years, in only three cases has the student or school dropped us a line to say thanks afterwards.
