Schools plus at Cosla

THE Convention of Scottish Local Authorities has chosen a new chief executive with a background in education.

Oonagh Aitken, Fife's corporate manager for social strategy, was a modern language teacher before joining the Strathclyde directorate in 1990. She was the region's representative in Brussels.

She describes her new post as a "great challenge, especially with the need for local government rapidly to form its relationships with the Parliament and Executive".
