Scottish fees closer to abolition;News in brief

SCOTLAND took a further step towards scrapping university tuition fees this week. The TES understands most members of the independent Cubie Committee, charged with looking at Scottish student finance, now favour fee abolition. Their second report, issued this week, suggested the cost to taxpayers could be as little as pound;12 million in the first year - pound;30m lower than previous estimates.
